The story behind our Copper River Salmon

by Bea James, senior manager of organic, natural and sustainable programs
Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Our Copper River sockeye salmon is the kind of fish you’re proud to put on your table. You know exactly where it came from, the strict guidelines behind its fishing practices and the top-quality flavor.

Pacific salmon in Alaska is among the most intensively managed species in the world, with excellent monitoring of both the fish populations and the fishing practices. Alaska has always subscribed to strictly regulated management practices and is recognized internationally as a leader in sustainable fisheries management. Alaska Seafood, one of our many Responsibly Sourced partners, helps us reach our sustainable seafood goals by offering the best wild-caught Alaskan seafood.

Our cakes are made in small batches resulting in fresher products. And all our cakes are handmade, right down to measuring ingredients by hand to ensure you always get the perfect cake.

The story behind our salad bars

by Bea James, senior manager of organic, natural and sustainable programs

Our salad bars focus on fresh, unique and healthy foods! We use the freshest ingredients with a wide variety of greens, whole grains, raw and steamed veggies, nutritional boosts and more.

Most people think of a salad as lettuce, a little shredded carrots and dressing. Not me! A good salad is satisfying and can pack so many great flavors and textures. I put all kinds of delicious ingredients in my salad, like roasted vegetables, grains, nuts, dried fruit and even top it off with a boost or two.

The story behind our Bachman’s partnership

Susan Bachman West, executive director of perishable operations

Lunds and Byerly’s note: Bachman’s, a local, family-owned company, has been our valued partner since 1968, when our very first Byerly’s store opened in Golden Valley.

In 1968, Bachman’s set forth on a path that was to revolutionize the floral industry – marketing cut flowers via Bachman’s European Flower Markets. Ralph Bachman and Don Byerly, Sr. partnered to open the first European Flower Market at Byerly’s in Golden Valley on April 1968. The kiosk occupied a 500 square-foot area and sold inexpensive cut flowers and plants.
