You probably already know berries are good for you, but did you know that in addition to being delicious, they’re some of the healthiest foods to eat?

A group of us produce lovers from Lunds and Byerly’s recently had the privilege of travelling to California to attend “Driscoll’s University.” Driscoll’s, our primary berry provider, led our group on a two-day program to educate us on their extensive and remarkable berry operations. This included tours of nurseries, breeding facilities, ranches and distribution facilities.

I have the pleasure of being the buyer for our berry category at Lunds and Byerly’s. I say “the pleasure” because I cannot think of another category more exciting, fresh, or delicious than berries.

It is fun to be able to offer such delicious berries at a real value to our customers. Certainly the most popular of the berries is strawberries. They are always a beautiful, bright red color and can immediately put a smile on anyone’s face.


Blackberries are also popular in our stores, but right now is the absolute best time of the year to buy! For a limited time, and exclusively at Lunds and Byerlys, we are offering Driscoll’s season’s finest blackberries.

July is National Berry Month! We are at the peak of the season for Driscoll’s strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. What better way to kick up the nutrition in your diet than with peak of the season, nutrition-packed berries?

In addition to being delicious, berries are rich in antioxidants that help protect our cells against free radicals (molecules that are produced by normal body functions). Free radicals can damage our cells and cause health problems related to oxidative damage, such as heart disease, cancer, macular degeneration, diabetes, arthritis, hypertension and Alzheimer’s disease. Antioxidants can slow or even stop these kinds of damages.
