The story behind our Bachman’s partnership

Lunds and Byerly’s note: Bachman’s, a local, family-owned company, has been our valued partner since 1968, when our very first Byerly’s store opened in Golden Valley.

In 1968, Bachman’s set forth on a path that was to revolutionize the floral industry – marketing cut flowers via Bachman’s European Flower Markets. Ralph Bachman and Don Byerly, Sr. partnered to open the first European Flower Market at Byerly’s in Golden Valley on April 1968. The kiosk occupied a 500 square-foot area and sold inexpensive cut flowers and plants.

While we wait to get our hands truly dirty, pansy bowls are the perfect option to start embracing spring’s pending arrival because they’re not afraid of a little cold!

Grown locally, they’re hearty and can go outdoors now. Of course, if there’s an unexpected dramatic drop below about 25 degrees (not that uncommon for a Minnesota spring), move them inside for a while. Ultimately, this beautiful plant offers great color with minimal care, which is another bonus.

No plant sets the scene for Christmas quite like the poinsettia. They’re timeless, make great holiday gifts and add rich reds and other hues well suited for the season to any home.

Bachman’s began selling this venerable plant in 1940 and is now one of the largest commercial growers of poinsettias in the U.S. We begin planting poinsettias every spring and have been continually evolving the varieties, sizes and colors available each year.
