Happy New Year! Each year as I replace the old calendars on the walls in my office, I reflect on twelve months that just sailed by. It seems these most recent months passed slightly faster than the previous twelve, a feeling I am certain will repeat next year.
The year 2012 was one the most exciting years for produce I have seen! It was full of new and exclusive items that brought some of our produce categories to a whole new level. What’s so wonderfully fun about these items is they brought a little seasonality back to the produce department.

The natural food industry knows things - secret things that some people are just discovering will turn their health around. For example, I’m sure you’ve heard recent claims that “sugar is a toxin.” The natural food industry has known this about sugar for decades, but if it’s breaking news for you, then you probably aren’t loading your grocery cart with natural and organic foods.
I’ve been in the natural food business for more than 30 years, listening to and being mentored by hundreds of natural health food experts. I’m not a nutritionist, but I have studied holistic nutrition and learned the basic secrets to natural foods.
I’m not making health claims - just telling you what I’ve learned over the years that works for me. And as always, it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor before making changes to your health regime.

For the last seven years we have provided our customers with certified organic produce departments. What this means is that we are offering certified organic produce that is handled in a way that only a certified organic store can guarantee. We are selling certified organic produce in a certified organic department, making our organic produce double certified. Pretty cool for all us organic food geeks.
Certifying our produce departments as organic has been our guarantee that we are maintaining the integrity of the organic farmer and making sure their hard work is valued and maintained from farm to fork. Each year every one of our stores is inspected by an accredited USDA third party organic inspection agency, and believe me this is no easy feat.
