Amy Fouks, bakery category manager

My bakery trend blog for 2013 certainly missed the Cronut (half croissant, half donut), so I had to include it as a prelude for this year! Here’s my list of trends that are hot in the bakery world for 2014:

We have looked into our crystal ball and have seen what 2013 will bring. From new ideas to growing trends from previous years, we’re keeping track of what’s in and what’s out in the catering and party world for the upcoming year.

From cocktails to couture, here’s our expert take:

  • Pantone, the world-renowned authority on color across all industries, has made Emerald the color of 2013. Expect to see it in décor, flowers, fashion, and yes, even foods and beverages.

With the new year upon us, it’s time to examine new trends and predict what’s to come in 2013. Here are a few of the things on our minds in the deli department.

New Nordic
With restaurants like the Bachelor Farmer and Fika, the New Nordic spotlight is shining on the Twin Cities. This trend has breathed new life into traditional fare such as Swedish meatballs, split pea soup and open-face sandwiches. Harring, anyone?

What's new in 2013 for wines and spirits

by Bill Belkin, wine and spirits category manager

Many new trends (something long term) this year versus fads (here and gone) are actually not quite so new as we peek ahead in the adult beverage world.

Here’s what my crystal wine bottle tells me:

That ubiquitous grape Syrah is back and this time it actually may become the next Merlot – or at least a variety that you’ll reach for when tossing the steak or burgers on the grill.

2013 Produce Trends

Happy New Year! Each year as I replace the old calendars on the walls in my office, I reflect on twelve months that just sailed by. It seems these most recent months passed slightly faster than the previous twelve, a feeling I am certain will repeat next year.

The year 2012 was one the most exciting years for produce I have seen! It was full of new and exclusive items that brought some of our produce categories to a whole new level. What’s so wonderfully fun about these items is they brought a little seasonality back to the produce department.
