We search the world to find the best products for our customers but sometimes we find these products in our own backyard!

Recently we met with Arlene Coco Buscombe with Prairie Kitchens out of Duluth who introduced us to her passion – scones. Arlene is a passionate culinary professional with two decades of experience as a chef and caterer. She’s a world traveler and knows great product when she tastes it!

Arlene brought us her handcrafted scones and they were fantastic! She uses unbleached flour, aluminum-free baking powder and premium spices. The three varieties we’re carrying in our stores are Wild Blueberry, Cinnamon Bliss and a Cheddar Herb Biscuit. She’s also working on creating a “plain’ buttermilk-based scone for us that will taste wonderful covered with fresh strawberries and whipped cream this summer.

I can’t say that I’m excited for fall because I don’t think we’ve really gotten a good dose of summer yet, but her seasonal varieties for fall sound scrumptious – Tom and Jerry with Currants, Butter Brickle, Golden Harvest – Sweet Potato, and Lingonberry Caramom. I’m so anxious to taste these innovative varieties and to bring a couple of them into our stores this fall.

It’s fun to work with small, local companies that create wonderful products. The passion and creativity these small companies bring is unmatched. You’ve got to try these scones!

Can't wait to try them out. Lunds in Plymouth rocks and I love scones.
