Aren’t Minnesota summers the best? We wait so long for this great weather to arrive, so why not get your fill of it and stay active at the same time! Check out below for some of my favorites:
Paddle boarding on the lakes
SUP, or stand up paddle boarding, is one of today’s fastest growing watersports. It’s no surprise given that Minnesota has many lakes perfect for this type of activity. Plus, it’s a terrific workout for your core and certainly trains your balance. However, with boards ranging from $600+ to purchase, we suggest you try your hand at SUP by renting first. Check out Wheel Fun Rentals, where SUP rentals are only $16! Wheel Fun has a number of different rental locations ranging from Lake Calhoun right here in the cities to East Gull Lake up north!
Another great pastime is to grab a few friends for a game of beach volleyball. Registration is happening now at Lord Fletcher’s for the 2nd session of summer volleyball, starting on August 15th. With many different leagues available for all skill levels, there’s no excuse not to get a team started!
Hit the Trails
Whether it’s hiking or biking, there’s a trail for you. The Three Rivers Park District has a substantial network of trails around the Twin Cities. With paved and unpaved options, there’s a trail for everyone’s needs. Visit their website for maps, a list of trails, and detailed information about the trails characteristics.
Free Fitness Classes
A common theme around the cities in the summer is free fitness classes that you don’t have to be a member to attend. Every so often, local businesses organize special free fitness events- check out my personal recommendation below:
Join us for STEELE in the Park - July 14th – registration at 9:30am, workout 10:00am – 11:00am! STEELE in the Park is a free fitness class presented by STEELE and Muscle Milk. This class is a combination of cardio, resistance and strength training and is open to all-levels! Join us rain or shine at Utley Park, located on West 50th Street and Wooddale Avenue.
