Ingredients
FOR THE MINT SIMPLE SYRUP: 1 cup white sugar
1 cup water
10-12 fresh mint sprigs
FOR THE COCKTAIL: 3 fresh mint leaves
1/2 ounce mint simple syrup
Ice
2 ounces straight bourbon whiskey
1 fresh mint sprig, for garnish
Directions
  1. TO MAKE THE MINT SIMPLE SYRUP: Bring sugar and water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Boil, stirring often, 5 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat; add mint, and let cool completely. Pour into a glass jar; cover and chill 24 hours. Remove and discard mint.
  2. Place mint leaves and Mint Simple Syrup in a chilled glass. Gently press leaves against glass with back of spoon to release flavors. Pack glass tightly with crushed ice; pour bourbon over ice. Garnish with mint sprig.

TIME-SAVING TIP: Use store-bought simply syrup as a substitute for the homemade version.
