Perfect Smash Burger
These fresh hamburger patties are made with a blend of ground beef chuck and short rib for extra-meaty flavor and a hefty dose of marbling, which keeps the meat nice and juicy. They’re excellent for flat-top cooking (a.k.a. smash success). Paired with the super easy, exceptionally creamy, crazy-tangy burger sauce made with five simple pantry ingredients, you have a harmonious, can’t-put-it-down burger that just might make you do that dance, the one you do when something tastes really, really good.

Ingredients
FOR THE BURGER SAUCE: ½ cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
¼ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
FOR THE SMASH BURGERS: 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 package L&B Smash Ready Burger Ground Beef (makes 8 patties)
Kosher salt, to taste
8 slices American cheese
8 L&B White Party Buns, sliced in half
½ head iceberg lettuce, shredded
1 small white onion, thinly sliced into rings
1 large tomato, sliced into 8 rounds
Directions
- TO MAKE THE BURGER SAUCE: In a small mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, sweet pickle relish and Worcestershire sauce. Stir together until smooth. Cover and set aside in the refrigerator.
- TO MAKE THE SMASH BURGERS: Heat a large cast iron skillet over high heat. Add the oil and swirl the pan to coat.
- Spray a burger press or large metal spatula with nonstick cooking spray. Working in batches if necessary, place the patties in the pan and smash each flat with the press or spatula. Season the patties evenly with salt. Cook until golden brown on one side, about 5 minutes. Flip the burgers and add one slice of cheese to each patty.
- Continue cooking until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked through, 4 minutes. Stack half the patties on top of the other patties, and transfer to a plate.
- On both sides of the buns, spread an even amount (about 1 tablespoon) of the burger sauce. Top each with an equal amount (about 3 tablespoons) of the lettuce. Place a double-stacked patty on each and top with onion and tomato. Close the burgers and serve!
